About

Welcome! Earth | Justice | Spirit features my writing and work with groups at the intersection of environmental protection, social justice, and spirituality.
Please subscribe to receive an email when I publish something new (probably once every few months). I’m posting commentary and personal reflection informed by my teaching and scholarship.

About me
Originally from Georgia, I now live in Greensboro, North Carolina, with my wife, Kate, and our two kids, who are in elementary school.
I have a Ph.D. in anthropology and teach cultural anthropology, environmental studies, and courses related to sustainable food systems at Guilford College (find out more about my academic career here).
My work within and beyond higher education focuses on empowering people to take bold climate action and build a more just and sustainable world. We can serve as midwives, helping to bring forth a society based on care and reverence for people and the earth alike. At the same time, we can discover within ourselves new ways of being and a deeper sense of belonging.
I grew up in Presbyterian churches and am still partially rooted in Protestant Christianity, though I am also exploring what lies beyond my religious homeland. I am feeling my way toward a spirituality that is committed to justice and that is rooted in the earth. Yearning and uncertainty accompany me.
I enjoy hiking, singing, organizing stuff, riding my bike, and taking the bus. Hanging clothes on the line brings me deep joy.
